Las Vegas: LG has taken a bold step into the future of smart homes with the debut of its first AI-powered humanoid home robot, CLOiD, at CES 2026. Showcased on the showroom floor, the robot demonstrated its ability to perform household tasks such as folding laundry, baking light food items and fetching drinks — offering a glimpse into what next-generation home automation could look like.
CLOiD was displayed inside LG’s massive smart home installation at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where visitors and media witnessed the life-size robot in action. Though still in the concept stage with no confirmed release date, the robot marks an important milestone for LG’s push into multifunctional home robotics.
Folding Laundry, One Towel at a TimeOne of CLOiD’s most talked-about demonstrations was folding laundry. The robot carefully lifted and folded dish towels placed in front of it, taking roughly 30 seconds per towel. While the process was slow and slightly uneven, the robot completed the task consistently without errors. However, CLOiD could not reach into a laundry hamper and required attendants to place each towel individually.
Light Cooking and Drink FetchingCLOiD also showed its ability to perform simple kitchen tasks. In one demonstration, the robot retrieved a tray holding a croissant and placed it inside an oven to warm it. While the oven did not close automatically, the action showed promising coordination between the robot and smart appliances.
In another test, CLOiD fetched a jug of milk from a refrigerator and placed it on a counter — though it did not pour the milk into a glass. These demonstrations highlighted the robot’s current limitations while still showcasing meaningful progress.
Coordinating Other Smart DevicesOne of the most impressive moments came when CLOiD detected a dirty patch on the floor and instructed an LG robot vacuum to clean it. The vacuum responded immediately, demonstrating CLOiD’s ability to manage and coordinate multiple connected devices within a smart home environment.
According to LG, CLOiD is designed to operate within its ThinQ smart home ecosystem, enabling it to communicate with compatible LG appliances and automate everyday tasks.
Built for Mobility and PrecisionCLOiD features a humanoid design with a head unit, torso, two articulated arms and a wheeled base for autonomous navigation. Each arm has seven degrees of freedom, similar to a human arm, and each hand includes five independently controlled fingers for precise object handling.
The wheeled base uses technology derived from LG’s robot vacuum systems, providing stability and safety with a low center of gravity to reduce the risk of tipping. The robot’s head serves as a mobile AI hub, housing cameras, sensors, speakers and a display that allow it to interact naturally with users through voice and visual feedback.
A Step Toward Smarter HomesLG says CLOiD is intended to reduce the physical effort and time required for daily chores, from retrieving items and preparing light meals to coordinating appliances and managing household routines. While the robot remains a concept, its debut signals LG’s ambition to expand beyond traditional appliances into intelligent home robotics.
Industry experts believe LG’s entry into this space could accelerate innovation across the smart home sector, encouraging other major brands to explore multifunctional robotic assistants.
For now, CLOiD offers an exciting preview of what may soon become a reality in connected homes worldwide.
