In wake of growing criticism over safety of online data the Maharashtra government has decided to introduce a technology that allows storage and distribution of information in digital format but not its copying. The government has claimed that the technology known as blockchain is the safest way to store data without it being hacked. Principal Secretary of Information Technology department S.V.R. Srinivas said that the new technology platform will help the government in data security in departments like revenue, police, land records, students scholarship database, farm loan waiver scheme database. The technology is likely to be discussed at the first Maharashtra Technology Summit to be held in participation with Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on January 17. Shrinivas pointed that Bengaluru and Hyderabad have taken lead in software technology. He also informed that the state government wants to make Mumbai the Fintech capital of the country. We will soon come out with a Financial Technology policy. The new technology will help in ensuring greater trust, transparency and efficiency in the governance. He said that the technology can be used in departments like revenue to store land records, in police to store FIRs and records of criminals, land extracts and in other sectors like health, education.
